Industrial Medicine

For over 15 years, ECRC Physical Therapy has provided Functional Capacity Evaluations, Pre-Work Screens and Functional Job Analysis/Job Descriptions to assist employers, physicians, case managers and employees in eastern CT. Through advanced training in Industrial Physical Therapy services from Work Well Systems, these services have been an important component for both small and large employers to help reduce an employee’s lost time due to injury through the use of effective physical therapy treatment and post injury management of musculoskeletal disorders.

Functional Job Analysis / Description
• Identifies specific physical demands of the job
• Helps employers develop ADA compliant Functional Job Descriptions
• Serves as basis to develop specific return to work criteria

Pre-Work Screens
• Tests employees ability to perform the physical demands of the job
• Used to eliminate worker apprehension following injury once return to work status is achieved

• ECRC Physical Therapy provides comprehensive industrial physical therapy services to help employers maintain a healthy and productive work force

The Functional Capacity Evaluation is a validated and specialized assessment of a person’s ability to perform either 1) specific tasks associated with the person's job to determine his/her ability to safely perform work tasks essential to their job, or 2) as an assessment tool to assist physicians, case managers and employers place someone into a suitable and safe work category within the abilities of the person being assessed.

The ECRC Physical Therapy Functional Capacity Evaluation consist of:

• 1 or 2 day, evaluations using up to 29 functional tests of physical work abilities in a one-on-one assessment with a physical therapist specially trained in assessing and interpreting observable and objective findings. The PT assesses function through observation and measurement of physiological responses and observed behaviors with both graduated efforts and the use of standardized normative data.

• The reports are easy to read with valuable information for all parties to use in helping a person determine their abilities and the risk associated with returning a person to work tasks.

Workplace Risk Assessment and Early Intervention Program:

Staying in business today requires the know-how to meet the challenges of maintaining a healthy and productive workforce. There are a number of strategies to reduce work-site risk and prevent the costs associated with work injury from escalating. The ECRC Physical Therapy Workplace Risk Assessment and Early Intervention Program can be an invaluable service to keeping your business competitive and your employee’s safe.

We will:
• Help coordinate your safe work and risk management practices to promote a safe working environment and better manage your injured worker.

• Educate your team members to establish a cooperative and sense of co-responsibility between employers and employees to reduce unsafe work practices, use proper body mechanics and practice safe and effective work site stretching and movement activities to improve physical abilities and awareness of the team members to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

• Provide easy and timely access for the care of employees who are injured on the job. ECRC Physical Therapy will work with your existing medical team to emphasize worker responsibility, appropriate work injury prevention and early management, cooperation and communication with the company medical team to establish quick, effective care and treatment.

• Establish on-site educational programs to reduce MSD (musculoskeletal disorders) through analysis of the physical demands associated with specific job tasks.

• Keep the employer, case manager and physician informed of each phase of worker treatment and reintegration strategies to return a team member to work and to reduce the recurrence of injury.
