Primary Care Shortage: Opportunity or Challenge?

Primary Care Shortage: Opportunity or Challenge?

An Associated Press article about the possible expanding role of nurse practitioners reports that, as the country faces a shortage of primary care physicians, 28 states are considering expanding the authority of NPs to allow them to practice without the supervision of a doctor and to prescribe narcotics.

Apr 16, 2010 8:36 AM - In rural areas and under-served urban neighborhoods, in particular, NPs are often the "primary care" entrance to the system. Physical therapists are already working closely with NPs, as well as physician assistants (PAs), in many situations and continue to build relationships to care for patients who have no other access to health care. Many NPs and PAs rely on physical therapists to be the experts in musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, wellness and many other areas of health care.

Related to the PCP shortage, are you aware that you do not need a referral to attend PT? So you don't need to wait for an appointment with your PCP. Call any one of ECRC's office to schedule your appointment. We will be sure to communicate with your PCP.
