APTA Recommending more Research

Apr 20, 2010 8:29 AM - APTA Calls for Increased Funding for NIH Rehab Research

In testimony submitted this week to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies in both the US House and Senate, APTA recommended enhancing rehabilitation research through increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - specifically the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, which houses the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research, as well as the National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research.

Background and requests also were provided concerning programs specific to physical therapy initiatives in falls prevention, stroke, and TBI [traumatic brain injury]. The testimony was related to physical therapy and rehabilitation science priorities for the US Department of Education and various agencies within the US Department of Health and Human Services.
